About IIC
The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, implemented through the MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC) in collaboration with the AICTE. The program is designed for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to systematically foster a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and start-up development within academic institutions.
The primary role of IICs is to actively engage faculty members, students, and staff in innovation- and entrepreneurship-related activities such as ideation, problem-solving, proof-of-concept development, design thinking, intellectual property rights (IPR), project handling, and management at the pre-incubation and incubation stages. These initiatives aim to establish and sustain a strong innovation and start-up ecosystem in HEIs.
The IIC framework addresses challenges such as limited innovation activities, lack of structured planning, minimal leadership involvement, and underutilization of creative potential among students, thereby enabling the development of a vibrant innovation ecosystem.
